Abstract:

An ATM statistical multiplexer modeled as a discrete-time single-server queueing system with bursty (or correlated) arrivals is considered. Using a simple on/off source model as an example, the authors describe a general analytical approach to obtain the steady-state fail distributions of buffer contents and delay. This approach is simple and useful in practice.
