The paper investigates the use of graph theory as a potential way for making better use of available road space. The aim is to get a better understanding of the spatial characteristics of traffic movement in urban areas and to construct a design tool capable of translating such idealised concepts into schemes tailored to meet the individual requirements of particular road networks.
