Deals with planning the maintenance scheduling of a group of non-identical production units. Develops a realistic model for the joint overhaul problem by incorporating the cost of co-ordination. The model selects overhaul schedules that minimize the average total cost of operation which consist of the cost of repairs, the cost of production, and the cost of co-ordination. Proposes a new procedure for solving the problem. Lower costs are obtained for two examples from the literature which were solved using the proposed model.
