Abstract:

Substantial savings on overhead costs are often possible for assembly systems, if component lot-sizes can be equalized and synchronized. The authors demonstrate that ‘Single Cycle’ or ‘kitting’ policies for lot sizing are suprisingly robust, by deriving a parameter dependent bound on their worst case performance. Demands are stochastic with full backlogging.
