In 1980 Duncan Conway of the Hatfield Polytechnic carried out a study of 27 in-house Operational Research OR groups in the UK. This led to the identification of a link between the mix of projects carried by a group and its stage in a notional ‘life cycle’ of Operational Research OR groups. In 1987-88 it was the author’s task to follow up the Operational Research OR groups who had helped in 1980, to see what had happened to them. She managed to trace about 20 of the original 27. In some cases, it was possible to determine that the group no longer existed, but in others much more information could be collected. Ssome of her findings are described here, along with the pig connection.
