The problem described in this paper has gone under many names. Perhaps the most descriptive would be the minisum Euclidean distance facility location problem. The paper traces the colorful history of this famous problem and the many contributions, both correct and incorrect, to its development and generalizations. It also quibbles with the appropriateness of its own title.
