Abstract:

The human resources (HR) function at Westinghouse needed to find a way to get full value out of their corporate human resources and payrol system. Ad hoc reporting and retrieval of important HR information was often laborious and difficult. Implementing an executive information system (EIS) made the Westinghouse HR and payroll system easily accessible and a value-added source of information. The authors examined the implementation and ongoing use of the human resources basic information environment (HuRBIE) at Westinghouse, focusing on how the addition of HuRBIE affects employees’ information gathering for the HR community. The present investigation provides some insights into different sources of information at Westinghouse, EIS as an information source, and how customer information needs are addressed. Such customer surveys can be used to determine customer needs and to manage change in the EIS.
