This paper examines two fundamental issues of model management: What is it that is being managed and what is the DSS context in which model management occurs. How a researcher answers these questions will shape ensuing research efforts. The authors then consider research directions that have been pursued in terms of the issues of developer tools, analysis dynamics, and usage settings. They conclude with a new direction for model management research, which involves a hyperknowledge paradigm.
