Abstract:

In this report, the authors are dealing with the analysis of some bush fire data in the state of Victoria. In order to use this data for further mathematical analysis, they first determine the distribution of the occurrences of the fires and the mean number of fires controlled per unit time. The authors established that the data follows a Poisson distribution. Further, the bush fires in the state of Victoria were analyzed as a queueing process and subsequently this model was used to give the probabilities of observing k fires per unit time. These probabilities would then give the authors an indication of the risk of a bush fire occurring for a particular season in a given period.
