Companies that are just starting out on the JIT journey or are in the midst of converting to JIT can benefit from JIT deliveries from suppliers. An inventory model is used to illustrate how purchased-materials inventories can be managed effectively in this environment. More importantly, it can be used to provide the motivation for such companies to migrate from a ‘not quite JIP’ to a truly JIT environment in their internal operations.
