The work presented in this paper concerns with analysis and synthesis of the two‐dimensional (2D) digital systems based on model order reduction, and application to the 2D digital filters. The synthesis of the 2D systems is performed with the semi‐definite iterative programming (SDP) method, in the frequency domain. After the synthesis, we make an order reduction of the synthesised model by the quasi‐Gramians method. From several results and their interpretations, the 2D filter synthesised by the model reduction proposed method, present advantages compared to the conventional direct synthesised filters.
