Abstract:

Although many laboratory studies conclude otherwise, field study researchers will measure DSS effectiveness by system usage, based on the assumption that frequent use of a system implies its potential benefits. This study used data from a field study to test the accuracy of the assumption. Based on literature review, eight potential benefits of DSS were identified and used as measures of its effectiveness. The respondents included 201 experienced users from manufacturing and financial services industries who used DSSs on a regular basis. The results suggest that system usage has a significant relationship with only one of the eight effectiveness measures, namely; competitive edge.
