Abstract:

This paper describes a simulation model that is built to study the relationship between population dynamics and economic development in developing countries. The simulation model mainly consists of two submodels, the DEM and CEM. The DEM, a five-dimensional demographic model, is integrated with a computable general equilibrium economic model the CEM. The simulation model is programmed in FORTRAN. The simulation experiments provide several interesting insights into the dynamics of demographic-economic systems in developing countries. Thus, the model can be used by policy-makers in developing countries to test and compare alternative policies for both population planning and economic development.
