Itinerary planning on an airline network involves knowing the best way of getting from an origin to a destination, subject to considerations of fare, time and connections. This paper describes an interactive PC-based computer system developed for itinerary planning, focussing on the user requirements, data structures and algorithms. While the airline system is used as the main example, differences in using such a system for rail and road transport are also highlighted.
