Abstract:

We test the capability and efficiency of an inverse scattering algorithm for imaging and inverting seismic data. The algorithm does not require a velocity model or any other a priori information about the medium under investigation. We use four different models that exemplify different types of one‐dimensional media with variable velocity. We show that the algorithm can precisely locate the interfaces and discover the correct velocity changes at those interfaces. We also compare this algorithm with the inverse scattering Leading Order Imaging Algorithm presented in [1] and show that the present algorithm locates the interfaces more accurately in all the test cases.
