Abstract:

We categorize the folding patterns of planar space structures, such as solar sails.

We propose the methods that consider finite‐thickness and boom integration.

The effect of thickness is analyzed by a simple roll‐up of a Z‐folded membrane.

Three methods are proposed that can keep the crease lines straight.

A design is proposed to connect a membrane to deployable booms at multiple points.
