• The impact of electric vehicle charging on Western Australian electricity demand is simulated. • Three recharging scenarios are studied under different degrees of electric vehicle take‐up. • Unregulated charging will not increase annual peak demand until 10% of the fleet is electric. • Night‐time only recharging has limited benefit once adoption exceeds 15% of the fleet. • There is significant scope for managed vehicle recharging throughout the 24h day.
