We estimate hourly electricity demand of plug‐in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). The 24–29% of PHEV daily electric energy use occurs outside of the home. PHEVs with 20 miles of range shift 45–65% of vehicle miles traveled in the United States to electricity.
