Abstract:

This paper considers paths from (0,0) to (2n,2n) whose steps are (1,0), (0,1) and (1,1) each step with weight A,C,B respectively. Comparisons are made between paths which stay below y=x+1 and those paths which avoid the points (1,1), (3,3), (5,5),.... The number of paths in each case differ by the factor 2AC/(B+2AC). Several other cases and various probabilistic consequences are also worked out.
