Abstract:

The interest in supply chain security has been growing among academics, business practitioners and government worldwide. But there are countries where this phenomenon is not yet well perceived and is still in the initial phase of interest. Poland can be found among these states. This article focuses primarily on the functioning of Polish companies and customs authorities in the context of security costs, new regulations and initiatives, and increasingly globalising trade exchange. It draws attention to the specifics of supply chains with participation of Polish companies where most of traded goods are transported by road, not by sea. The study also shows that the issue of security relates to practically any country, even if entities operating in its area are not aware of the problem.
