One unique approach to identify knowledge orientation has been outlined in this research paper using Indian commercial banks as case example. The study outlines 27 manifest variables to define knowledge orientation in 14 banks through survey administered to 360 senior‐middle level bank staff in Knowledge Management (KM) role. Data is analysed using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). All manifest variables are validated and measured in terms of their contribution to organisational knowledge, and a ranking order is drawn to present the knowledge orientation through a scorecard. The scores will help banks to analyse their knowledge orientation and determine what knowledge elements to use, shape or drop to structure their KM program.
