The aim of the paper is the deduction of known nonlinear programming results by means of the differential geometry. At first the optimality conditions of single variable functions are generalized for minimization problems where the constraint set is a differentiable manifold so that the first- and second-order optimality conditions can be obtained. Then the relation between these problems and the nonlinear programming problems will be examined.
