Abstract:

The paper presents a forgotten article in subject of Nonlinear Optimization. This article was published in Crelle's Journal in 1932, and its author was István Lipka (1899-1990) a Hungarian mathematician. In his work, Lipka has considered the inequality constrained nonlinear optimization problem motivated by an analytical mechanical investigation. He reduced the problem to solve an algebraic question based on quadratical forms. The paper contains Lipka's full work in Hungarian translation, historical comments, biographical data and two photos about the author.
