When the innovation process is following the logic of open innovation, there are important challenges of knowledge creation and utilisation that are related to various communicative and cognitive barriers within, and specifically, between the participants in the innovation process. Clearly, there seems to be a need for pragmatic approaches that can support the implementation of the open innovation process. In this paper, two qualitative group work methods – the scenario process and the idea generation process – were applied to establish the open innovation process to overcome important communicative and cognitive barriers and to create new knowledge for new innovations.
