Abstract:

For large scale location problems data is often only available in aggregated form. Also in location-allocation problems data must be aggregated in order to be able to solve them. The study of the errors involved when aggregating data has attracted the attention of many researchers. In this paper we focus on the contnuous single facility models and the aggregation errors incurred at points relatively far from the destination sites. For the case where aggregation is done at the centre of gravity of the group, we obtain exact values for those errors in the asymptotic limiting cases and derive good bounds for the error at finite sires, valid for any gauge-based distance measure.
