Abstract:

This report introduces some aspects regarding traffic safety in Japan that may help the reader to understand Japan’s recent success in traffic accident reduction. In the first section, a trial of a historical review of traffic accident is made. Section 2 deals with some literature regarding traffic safety. In Section 3, a model is introduced to explain the change in the number of accidents in Japan using the estimated stock value of traffic safety facilities. An inversely proportional relation was found between the stock value and the accident numbers.
