Some thoughts on the future of Operations Research

This paper tries to analyze why Operations Research has remained a vital and strong discipline over the last 50 years in a highly changing environment with new up-coming disciplines, and that Operations Research has every chance to stay on this route also in the future. Looking at the German speaking Operations Research community, the Institut für Unternehmensforschung in St. Gallen and Paul Stähly certainly have contributed considerably to this positive development.
