Decision Support Systems (DDS) have developed to exploit Information Technology (IT) to assist decision-makers in a wide variety of fields. The need to use spatial data in many of these diverse fields has led to increasing interest in the development of Spatial Decision Support Systems (SDSS) based around the Geographic Information System (GIS) technology. The paper examines the relationship between SDSS and GIS and suggests that SDSS is poised for further development owing to improvement in technology and the greater availability of spatial data.
