This paper investigates the locational patterns of facilities that deal with municipal solid waste. A mixed-integer linear programming problem is set up to optimize the locations of landfills and garbage transfer stations in the province of Alberta. The solutions are analyzed with respect to their sensitivity to changes in the metric and the number of facilities opened.
