This paper develops a model to determine an optimal run time under an imperfect production process. The shortages are allowed. It is assumed that the elapsed time until the production process shift is arbitrarily distributed and the percentage of defective items is a nondecreasing function once the system is in the out-of-control state. This paper generalizes the results presented by Chung & Hou.
