Production capacity evaluating plays an important role in planning, scheduling, controlling and managing of one-of-a-kind and order-oriented production. Production capacity includes two aspects: one is technology and machine performance-dependent, another is production time-dependent. The former is qualitative and easy to evaluate. The latter, however, is quantitative and comparatively difficult to evaluate because it is task-based for some characteristics in the one-of-a-kind and order-oriented production. Through analyzing characteristics of production capacity and relations between a machine and operations on it, a concept called task-based production capacity is presented in this paper, some correlative definitions are also given. Furthermore, an approach and the corresponding algorithm is put forward to calculate task-based production capacity.
