The concept of proper efficiency, introduced by Geoffrion, is generalized to cover practical situations where Geoffrion’s definition does not apply. The generalized definition is applied to the relationship between multiobjective programming and scalarized multiobjective programming, and to the duality theory of mathematical programming.
