In this study, a pull-based milk run distribution system is designed for transportation of parts within the production area of a firm producing diesel injectors. First, the paths, which the vehicles can pass through, and the stock points are determined according to the physical properties of the production area. A mixed integer programming model, which assigns stock points to vehicles, is proposed to form the routes. The model minimizes the total daily work-in-process inventory cost and the distribution cost. The performance of the route minimizing the total cost is evaluated by using a simulation model. The proposed distribution system improves the total distribution and work-in-process inventory costs by 66% and decreases the number of vehicles used.
