A project could be considered eligible under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) if it fulfils a double additionality condition: (i) an environmental additionality and (ii) a sustainable development additionality. In this framework, we hereby present the Integrated Development and Environmental Additionality Assessment Methodology (IDEA-AM), a multicriteria based methodology for the assessment of candidate CDM projects additionality and its application to selected cases from the Mediterranean region. IDEA-AM has proven to be a useful assessment tool and can become a useful aid to policy and decision-makers as they strive towards the effective application of CDM.
