In this paper a method is developed for smoothing the day to day variation, the number of patients visiting the outpatient department of a hospital. The analysis is done for outpatient departments without an appointment system first and with an appointment system in the sequel. The methodology is applied on data collected at the Naval Hospital of Athens.
