This article reports on the results of a survey of approximately 140 high-level production managers intended to determine the usefulness and adoption status of 21 approaches in production. Opinions as to the usefulness of the approaches show wide variations. The number of firms that have or are working toward the approaches also varies widely. However, none of the approaches studied appears to have reached saturation; in fact, the majority seem still in an introductory stage.
