Modern and JIT manufacturing environments demand intense interaction and coordination between a large number of different departmental units. Computer systems generally support the collection and exchange of quantitative data, but information of a qualitative nature is not generally included. This article presents a computer-based approach for supporting the collection and exchange of qualitative information to enhance coordination and communication in manufacturing environments.
