Abstract:

The use of the therm ‘JIT’ to describe a plant’s management philosophy has become so popular that it has led to confusion; some plants that have implemented even the smallest portion of a JIT environment may call themselves ‘JIT shops’. The article differentiates along the three basic stages of JIT implementation: kanban, production planning, and global management philosophy.
