Using a microcomputer decision support system for production planning

The decision support system (DSS) designed for production planning runs on a microcomputer and has a format similar to a spreadsheet. It was tested by two groups of students assigned a production planning problem. The average total cost was the same for both groups, but the group solving the problem manually took significantly longer and was more likely to propose an infeasible plan than the group using the DSS.
