This article provides an effective solution to the problem of managing inventory levels and production scheduling when demand is very lumpy. Lumpy demand, often associated with consumer goods products, is linked to the practice of heavy trade promotion characteristic of many high-volume manufacturing firms in the food processing, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries.
