This paper considers a short-term operational planning for a medium-demand, medium-variety printed circuit board (PCB) on a mixed-model, or multiple products, assembly line consisting of two identical machines with the objective of maximizing the throughput. The problem is decomposed into three sub-problems being solved hierarchically: Part selection, sequencing, and workload balancing problems. The sub-problems are modeled as mixed integer linear programming problems. Furthermore, heuristic procedures are developed for each sub problem. The heuristics are tested based on randomly generated data.
