This paper discusses the prospect of operating a new telemedical system in the Greek National Health Care System, as a means to overcome the hospitalisation and diagnostic problems in non-urban areas of the country (patients transfer from county to centre, decongestion of hospitals). Details its functions and benefits and introduces a model of determining and analysing the cost of the conventional health care services and the cost of telemedicine. Finally, it analyses the economic results of the model and proposes a mode for successfully introducing telemedicine to the Greek National Health Care System.
