Availability is an important measure in describing the performance of a system. The availability of a decomposition process in a urea production system in the fertilizer industry is considered in this paper. The system contains four subsystems and is supported by a standby unit. An estimation study of the steady state availability of the system is performed and illustrated by means of a numerical example.
