The following contribution describes the planning of the production in a metallurgical plant with four blast furnaces. Basing on a fixed demand for pig iron per day which is to be fulfilled, it is to decide, how the production is to distribute among the four blast furnaces, when the costs of production are to be minimized. Subsequently the problem is extended by changing the demand for pig iron step by step. The optimal solution of this problem is achieved by using the methods of linear programming and mathematical statistics.
