The purpose of this paper is to contribute to the transfer to service organisations of management concepts developed in manufacturing. The authors assume that the reader is aware of the classical materials management concepts and techniques. What they want to do is to provide a conceptual framework describing various situations of different service organisations which helps to see where and how these concepts and techniques are applicable.
