A complex system is composed of several different components. It is necessary to take the different failure rate and different maintenance time of the components into account. This paper proposes a new maintenance policy model. It considers the difference between, and importance of, different components. Under a given availability, the model can achieve an optimal preventive maintenance cycle with a minimum total average cost.
