This paper deals with the problem of controlling a simple immigration process, which represents a pest population, by the introduction of total catastrophes. It is assumed that the cost per unit of time caused by the pests is a bounded non-decreasing function of their population size. The average-cost optimal policy is found to be of control-limit type.
