Abstract:

Generalized monotonicity is a very useful property of maps figuring in complementarity problems, variational inequality problems and equilibrium problems. The “carrier” of these concepts started with the seminal paper of Steven Karamardian and Siegfried Schaible published in 1990, in which the authors revealed the links between several generalized convexity properties of smooth functions and generalized monotonicity properties of their gradient maps. Based on the results obtained by Reinhard John very recently the paper provides an overview of the early appearance of these favourite concepts in Microeconomics.
