Given that the transportation time is variable, this paper presents a stochastic optimization model for a distributed distribution system in which there are two components held at separate locations and no restriction on early delivery. With the goal of minimizing the holding cost at the merge-center and fulfilling timely delivery, we discuss how to determine the transportation leadtime. Sensitivity analyses for parameters in the model are also provided.
