Abstract:

A matrix generalization of classical (scalar) continued fractions appears quite naturally in the spectral factorization problem for second-order q-dependent processes. Since the classical concept plays an important role in a variety of numerical problems, its matrix extension can also be expected to be of some use in the domain. The problem of factorizing inflnite positive definite band matrices is treated as an example.
